About Me
Oliver Thompson's passion for bowls began at a young age, inspired by watching his grandparents play crown green. However, it wasn’t until 2020—while producing a news feature on the revival of the Falkland Islands Bowls Association—that he decided to take up the sport himself.
He began playing Short Mat Bowls, practicing on makeshift mats taped together in a school corridor. Despite the humble beginnings, Oliver quickly progressed, consistently achieving third-place finishes in national competitions. His dedication paid off on the international stage when he won a silver medal in the Open Triples at the 2023 Guernsey Island Games. Since then, he has represented the Falkland Islands twice at the World Bowls Indoor Championship and was crowned the Falkland Islands National Champion in 2025. His leadership has also been recognised through his election as Vice Chairman of the association.
Alongside his sporting career, Oliver has recently launched his own media business, combining his skills in journalism with his passion for storytelling.
Now, his sights are firmly set on competing at the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
